Merítés a KUT-ból VIII
VÖRÖS GÉZA (1897-1957)
REMEMBRANCE EXHIBITION

16 October – 13 November, 2004.

Haas Gallery proceeds with its exhibition series „Merítés a KUT-ból” displaying the most excellent representatives of the Képzőművészek Új Társasága working between the two World Wars. The present opening will launch the 8th part of this series and will be the remembrance exhibition of the excellent painter, GÉZA VÖRÖS (1897-1957) in the exhibition rooms in 13. Falk Miksa street, between 16 October and 13 November, 2004.

Vörös Géza is considered as one of the most remarkable artists of the French trend in Hungarian art between the World Wars due to his significant pieces of art created in the 20’s and the 30’s. His works came into light because of the increasing attention of the art market. His pictures frequently participated in the exhibitions of the KUT, the Tamás Galéria, the Alkotás Művészház and the Fészek Klub.
He lived a life of the bohemian artists. He walked the same streets of the bustling city centre in Budapest as we do today. Passed most of his time at the terrace of the – hopefully soon reopening – Japan cafe house in the Andrássy avenue, made drawings of his artist friends and spent his nights in the Fészek Klub, crowded with writers and actors of that era. Attended the ateliers of Modigliani and Matisse in Paris, and École de Paris effected his early works accordingly.
Most of his paintings are atelier interiors, still-lives, nudes, portraits and oriental, growing vegetal compositions. In contrast to his early cool and delicate, secession-art-deco style, from the end of the 1930’s his paintings became statuesque, natural and not so drawing-like.

Haas Gallery “scoops” from a lifelong artwork of Géza Vörös for the exhibition, focusing more on the core of it, the paintings made in the 1920’s and the 1930’s, displaying representative masterworks chosen from private collections and museums. A colourful catalogue is published for the occasion with the essay of art historian Brigitta Muladi. The exhibition is part of the Magyar Festészet Napja (Hungarian Painting Day) event. Exhibition opening: 15 October, Friday, 17:00 (CET), Speaker: Brigitta Muladi.
